RecoReads is a book recommendation service available at recoreads.com. We match children's books to individual readers based on reading level, personal taste, and stage of life, and help parents filter content to suit their family's values.

For the purposes of this policy, "we," "us," and "our" refers to RecoReads. "You" refers to a parent or guardian using the service.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to give your child great book recommendations:

• Your name and email address — to create and manage your account and send you relevant updates
• Your child's name and grade level — to personalize book recommendations and tailor suggestions to their reading stage
• Content preferences — filters you set about themes, tone, and topics you prefer to include or exclude
• Usage data — pages visited, features used, and interactions on the site (via cookies and analytics tools)

We do not collect your child's age beyond grade level, and we do not ask children to register or interact with the service directly.

How we use it

We use your information to:

• Generate personalized book recommendations matched to your child
• Remember your content filters and preferences across sessions
• Send you account-related emails (such as a welcome email or password reset)
• Improve RecoReads over time by understanding how parents use the site
• Respond to questions or support requests you send us

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles about you or your children.

Children's information

We collect a child's name and grade level solely to power book recommendations within the service. This information is:

• Entered by a parent or guardian, never by the child
• Used only to personalize recommendations within your account
• Never shared with third parties for marketing or any other purpose
• Deletable by you at any time by contacting us or deleting your account

We take our obligations under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) seriously. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13 without proper parental consent, please contact us immediately at privacy@recoreads.com and we will promptly delete it.

Sharing your data

We do not sell your personal information. Period.

We may share data in limited circumstances:

• Service providers: trusted vendors who help us operate RecoReads (such as hosting, email delivery, and analytics). They are contractually prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to us.
• Legal requirements: if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
• Business transfers: if RecoReads is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We would notify you before any such transfer takes effect.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data and your children's data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes.

Anonymized, aggregate usage data (which cannot be linked back to you) may be retained indefinitely to help us improve the service.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you and your children
• Correct any inaccurate information
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Opt out of non-essential communications at any time
• Portability — request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and to opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure data storage, and access controls that limit who within our team can view personal data.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you have reason to believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately.

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use RecoReads. We use:
